Dr Christos Markides
Lecturer and RCUK-Foster Wheeler Fellow in Clean Energy Processes
Dr Christos Markides is a Lecturer and the Research Councils UK-Foster Wheeler Fellow in Clean Energy Processes at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Imperial College London. He was awarded a First Class BA degree, a MEng with Distinction, a MA, and a PhD in Energy Technologies from the University of Cambridge. Following his studies he co-founded a Cambridge University Engineering Department spin-out company to develop and commercialise a novel thermally-powered fluid pumping device without mechanical moving parts; a technology capable of converting low-temperature waste heat or solar energy into fluid pumping work. He acted as its Technical Director until his appointment at Imperial in 2008. He specialises in applied thermodynamics, fluid flow and heat transfer in unsteady machines and heat exchangers, as well as advanced diagnostics. His current research focuses primarily on: renewable energy technologies; the efficient utilisation of solar and waste heat; novel heat integration schemes; and electricity storage. He also has an ongoing interest in clean combustion for power generation with improved efficiency and reduced emissions. He has written 50 scientific articles in these areas, that been published in journals or presented at international conferences.
