Meziane Lasfer
Professor of Finance
Having gained a BSc in Accounting and Finance, Meziane Lasfer won a scholarship towards a master’s degree and followed this up with Diploma in Accounting and Finance, MBA and PhD in Finance from the LSE and the University of Bath, UK. Meziane started as a research fellow in November 1990 at City University Business School. He was soon promoted to a personal chair. He has directed the Cass Business School PhD programme and MSc Finance course, and he was Associate Dean for Research and Knowledge Transfer. He published widely in the areas of corproate finance and asset management and he is ranked amongt the top 20 top researchers in Europe and 2nd with a UK PhD*. He teaches Finance courses to MBA, MSc and PhD students and to executives in the UK (e.g., Goldman Sachs, KPMG, Lloyds-TSB, Deloitte) and abroad (e.g., Thales - France, PT communicacos - Portugal, Kemira - Finland). His outstanding teaching performance led him to win the First Dean’s Prize for Teaching Excellence in 1998, and in 2003, 2006 and 2008. He was external examiner at London Business School, London School of Economics, Birmingham Business School and Cranfield School of Management. His previous and current visiting professor positions include HEC Paris, University Paris Dauphine, EDHEC Business School in Nice, and Catolica University in Lisbon. Meziane’s research interests include dividend policy, capital structure, taxation, asset sales, corporate governance, managerial ownership, pension fund investments, trading by insiders and institutions, and fundamentals of stock returns. He has published widely in top international academic journals such as Journal of Finance, Journal of Finance and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Corporate Finance, Financial Management, European Financial Management, and National Tax Journal. His research was widely reported in the press and was sponsored by the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF), the Finance Lease Association (FLA), Morley Asset Management, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), Donaldsons and Land Securities-Trillium. He is on the editorial board of a number of journals. He was an external consultant at the Financial Services Authority (FSA). Professor of International Financial and Monetary Law
Dr. Rosa María Lastra is Professor of International Financial and Monetary Law at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS), School of Law, Queen Mary, University of London. She has served as a consultant to the International Monetary Fund, the European Central Bank, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Barbara Lauriat
Lecturer in Law
Barbara Lauriat is a Lecturer in Law at King's College London. She was previously Career Development Fellow in Intellectual Property Law, in the Faculty of Law and St. Catherine’s College, Oxford. There, she was an academic member of the Oxford Intellectual Property Research Centre and taught Roman law and various intellectual property subjects on the undergraduate course, the BCL, and the Diploma in IP Law and Practice. Previously, she was the Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Oxford Faculty of Law and the General Editor (Editor-in-Chief) of the Oxford University Commonwealth Law Journal. She has also spent time as a Visiting Scholar at the University of British Columbia. Dr Lauriat holds an AA from Mount Wachusett Community College, a BA and JD from Boston University, where she served as an editor on the Boston University Law Review, and a DPhil on the subject of the 1878 Royal Commission on Copyright from Balliol College, Oxford. She enjoys writing and presenting for non-academic and non-law audiences and is an occasional contributor of articles on copyright to The Times and IP-themed limericks to the CIPA Journal.
