Prof Bruce Hanson
Professor of Nuclear Process Engineering
Prof. Hanson has recently joined Leeds in the new created Chair of Nuclear Process Engineering. Previously, he worked within the nuclear industry for over 20 years, first at BNFL, then through to the National Nuclear Laboratory (NN). Prof. Hanson has worked extensively on fuel cycle research and is part of the team involved in shaping the proposed UK national nuclear fission programme (a new UK Government initiative in response to a recent House of Lords Select Committee report on nuclear skills). Prof. Hanson has assisted the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and Sellafield Ltd. as co-author of the Plutonium Technology Roadmap and as Technical Lead for the NNL’s contribution to NDA’s macro –economic study on Plutonium and Uranium. Prof. Hanson is on the International Advisory Board for CINCH (an EU FP7 co-ordinated action) and RCUK’s REFINE programme. He has been involved in a succession of EU framework collaborative programmes since FP5 (PYROREP, EUROPART, ACSEPT, ASGARD). As Technical Authority for Spent Fuel and Nuclear Materials at the NNL, Prof. Hanson initiated internal R&D on socio-economics, with PhD researchers at UK universities.
