Patrick White's research focuses on education and training, and he has conducted research in the following areas: Student decision-making in compulsory schooling; teacher recruitment, retention and morale; educational markets and segregation; and lifelong learning. He has spent several years working on projects designed to enhance research capacity and retains a keen interest in research methods. He is particulary interested in: The formulation of research questions; the use of large-scale secondary data sets; and statistical modelling.

Professor Monica Whitty is Professor of Contemporary Media in the Department of Media and Communication and is a cyber-psychologist at The University of Leicester. She is the first author of ‘Truth, Lies and Trust on the Internet’ (2009, Routledge) with Adam Joinson. She has published and researched widely on the following topics: the online dating romance scam, fraud, insider threat, cyber-relationships, internet infidelity, online identity, online deception, cyberstalking, cyberethics, internet surveillance in the workplace, and taboos in video games. She has lectured to the police and other law enforcement on mass marketing fraud. She is a member of the international mass marketing fraud working group. She currently holds a number of grants on: romance scam, security and superidentity, and insider threat.

Current work focuses on the causes and consequences of the 2007/08 food price spike; options, impacts and policy implications of reducing net emissions from developing world agriculture; the potential of biofuels in developing countries; tracking the dynamics of commercialising smallholders in Africa; and studying ways to overcome failings in rural markets that hinder African small farmers from investing and innovating.
