Prof Molly Scott Cato
Professor of Strategy and Sustainability
I work in three main areas: emancipatory approaches to finance, green economics, and co-operative economics. In terms of finance, I am interested in the way that creating money through debt increases the pressure for economic growth beyond the limits of the planet. This relates to my work in green economics, which focuses on provisioning rather than markets and proposes a bioregional economy based around naturally defined areas and self-reliant economies. My work into co-operatives and social enterprises offers these alternative models as part of the debate about responsible capitalism.
